Hello and welcome to my podcast, andrea TLC, in which TLC stands for the Life Coach. I am your host, andrea. Thank you for joining me here today. Today, I want to talk about the power of goal setting and the reason why I want to talk about goal settings. Because last week I really had to sit down and set some goals on things that I want to achieve, and so I really just needed to have a moment and sit down and get that out of the way, and so while I was doing that, I thought why not just share that with everyone and so I can talk about it with you all? So let's talk about it.
Speaker 1:Okay, so the thing with a goal setting goal setting isn't about creating a to-do list. It's about making a roadmap to your dreams, guiding you step-by-step towards your desired destination. So let's start with the basics. What is goal setting? Okay, so goal setting is a process of defining specific, measurable objectives that you want to accomplish within a certain timeframe, whether it's advancing in your career, improving your health or mastering a new skill. Setting clear goals provides direction and motivation to kind of feel your journey. Motivation to kind of feel your journey. Okay, um, how do you set effective goals? Um, that will help you towards your success. You know how would you do that? Well, um, a good way to do that is first, um begin with clarity. Take time to envision your ideal future and identify what you truly want to achieve. You can ask yourself what is your passion? What are your values? Your values, most importantly, what do you want your life to look like? Okay, so, once you have a clear vision, it's time to make them SMART.
Speaker 1:Smart, being an acronym S-M-A-R-T is actually an acronym for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound. Okay, I'm going to try to break it down. Okay, so the first letter, s being specific, is your goals should be clear and defined. Instead of saying I want to get in shape, say this instead I want to lose 10 pounds in three months. Be more clear in what it is that you actually want to do. M, which is for measurable. Be more clear in what it is that you actually want to do. Okay, m which is for measurable. So your goals should be quantified so that you can track your progress and know when you've achieved success. This might involve setting milestones along the way. Okay, a for achievable.
Speaker 1:Now, while it is important to aim high, it is equally crucial to set goals that are within your reach. Consider your resources, your capabilities and time frame to ensure that your goals are realistic and effective. Attainable R is for relevant. Your goals should align with your values. Your values, your priorities, long-term aspirations. Make sure they resonate with you on a deep level and contribute to your overall sense of fulfillment and purpose. Okay, and finally, t for time bound Set a deadline for achieving your goals to create a sense of urgency and accountability. This will help you stay focused and motivated, preventing procrastination and ensuring steady progress.
Speaker 1:Now that word procrastination. I don't know if any of you out there watch SpongeBob. My kids do, I do. I watch SpongeBob, and there's an episode of SpongeBob where he's supposed to be writing a paper and he's clearly procrastinating. He's doing everything that he can think of other than writing this paper, which is due like the next day, right? And so I think of that as myself.
Speaker 1:Okay, I'm gonna talk about me for a minute. I tend to procrastinate in doing a task that I know needs to get done. I really don't care to do it, but it still needs to get done. So a lot of times I'll find other things to do besides doing that task that needs to be done. So we're not going to do that. You're not going to be like me. We're going to set goals and we're going to stick to it.
Speaker 1:Okay, enough of that, okay, so let's move on. All right, so now that you understand SMART S-M-A-R-T. Understand the SMART criteria, it's time to put them into action. Take a moment to reflect on your own goals and see how they measure up. Are they specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound? Okay, now just know that goal setting is not a one-time event. It's ongoing. It's a process of reflection, adjustment and growth. So you have to be flexible and willing to adapt to circumstances that may change. So don't be afraid to dream big, always dream big, dream big, always dream big. Okay, well, with all of that being said, I hope you feel inspired and empowered to set meaningful goals that will help you towards the life of your dreams. Until next time, peace, love and light.
